Website Changes
I've already posted on my socials; there have been some changes across all of my pages and my website. This past year, I have been in contact with the lovely people at Spectrum Books, and they will be publishing my debut novel, Rough Surf on the Coast. It's been a long and incredible journey, and it's nearing the end now with the last things being sorted before the printers start whirring! In the meantime, I want to get everyone as excited as I am about the release. April 202

European Travels
January 2026. Eli and I went traveling by train across parts of Europe. I wanted to take photos, but I knew if I took my camera I would end up with thousands of photos and most of them wouldn't be great, so I went online and bought myself a cheap 35mm half-frame film camera. We started in London, then travelled to Lille for 2 days, then to Brussels for a day, followed by Cologne for 2 days, Rotterdam for 2 days, Amsterdam for 2 days, and finishing off with 5 days in Berlin be

Calypso
After finishing my degree I was a little burnt out, and went through a lot in my personal life. I realised it had been over a year since I picked up my camera, and found the one thing I could take thousands of photographs of on my phone. My beautiful cat Calypso. She has since passed (very recently at the time of writing) and I want to post these photos as a way to make her memory stay. Rest in peace my beautiful girl. 11/04/2023 - 11/07/2026

Week 11: Objects Matter: Materiality and Photographic Surface
When thinking about the history of photography, one might think back to a time before digital photography was a thing, where people would shoot onto film and then develop the images onto photo paper. That paper is what is known as the photographic surface. Traditionally this surface will be specialist paper which ranges from shiny […]

Week 10 – Photography and Objectivity – Truth and Fiction
During this week, I spent a lot of time looking at my self-directed project. I went on a number of shoots. Choosing what images to edit to a shortlist: Choosing from the short list which images to include in the project: The final 20 images: I had to change my plans on where I was […]

Week 9 – Specificities of the Medium: History and Theory
For week 9, we looked at the history and theory of photography. I did some research looking at how people read photographs. I researched Rolan Barthes, and in all of my research, I would end up at the same point in which Barthes’ mother died and he is looking for her photograph. He wants to […]

Week 8 – Contemporary Documentary Photography
During week 8, we looked at various contemporary documentary photographers. Upon doing some further research, I found Desiree Dolron, a dutch photographer; and Simon Norfolk, who did work in post-war countries. Documentary is often seen as showing an event exactly how it happens, and is often categorised as ‘boring’. Through contemporary documentary photography however, photographers […]

Week 7 – Modes of Dissemination
Week 7 looked at modes of dissemination, for example an exhibition or a photobook. Traditionally, exhibitions will be a series of photographs in a room with bright white lighting, they aren’t accessible and many find difficulties visiting them. However, in recent times with the Covid-19 pandemic changing the way the world is run, many exhibitions […]

Week 6 – Narrative Photography
Two narrative photography projects that I have looked into are Truth Told Project by Sarah Fretwell, and The Narrative of Queer Couples by Akram Zaatari. Both of these projects show sensitive subjects, and look into issues that we could not imagine in the western world. Fretwell’s project looks at the rapes of women and girls […]

Week 6-7-8 Telling Tales
During week 6, we looked at narrative photography, and photographers such as Ken Grant and Hannah Starkey. This also started the last guided project; Telling Tales. For the guided project I decided to look at Re-Photography, to tell the story of how a place in my town has changed over the years. Talking about re-photography, […]

Week 5 – Photography of a Place
The landscape photograph is often taken for granted. On the walls of peoples homes and offices, it will be overlooked and ignored. But in reality, what a landscape photograph should do is make people feel. “When viewers look at your work, their hearts should jump. You want them to feel the same emotions that you […]

Week 4 & 5 – Interdisciplinary Photography
This week we have looked at interdisciplinary photography. In the lecture there were a number of practitioners who use other disciplines in their work, one that stuck out to me was Sanna Kannisto. I like how she shows the entire process within the image, rather than zooming in, or cropping it to be more of […]

Week 2 and 3 – Autobiographical Approaches
This weeks task is inner lives, outer contexts. Showing a series of autobiographical images. I had a few ideas of what I could do. I decided to look at my queerness and the things I have collected that show where I live is queer. From these I chose the following: The last image where my […]

Bridgwater Canal
I wasn't going to post this one as I walk along the canal a lot; however, this particular day, I took one of my favourite photos of my husband to date. This is the longest I have walked along the canal in my adult life, from the centre of Bridgwater to North Petherton, just about to the halfway mark of the canal. One day I will be fit and healthy enough to walk the entire distance!

Withyman's Pool
On the 21st April 2021, Eli and I went for a walk over the Quantocks. Although this is another one of those that I forgot to post about, I do remember parts of this. I remember walking for miles, taking in every bit of scenery, enjoying every moment together. Sitting on the top of a hill watching the horses, and getting back to the car park just in time for the sun to start setting. This was one of those moments as a couple I will always look back on fondly.
